AZWINS believes that all children, regardless of the severity of their disability, deserve to be educated with their peers who do not have disabilities.
Inclusive education benefits all students.
The goal of AZWINS is to provide high quality training and support to school personnel, family members, and community service providers in order to establish inclusive practices throughout all of Arizona's schools.
The goal of AZWINS will be met by:
Increasing high quality, inclusive opportunities for students with moderate to severe disabilities (preschool through high school)
Positively impacting the education of all students through educating school staff in evidence-based best practices of inclusive education
Creating nationally recognized models schools in inclusive education.
"Disability is a natural part of the human experience and in no way diminishes the right of individuals to participate in or contribute to society. Improving education results for children with disabilities is an essential element of our national policy of ensuring equality of opportunity, full participation, independent living, and economic self-sufficiency for individuals with disabilities. Almost 30 years of research and experience has demonstrated that the education of children with disabilities can be made more effective by having high expectations for such children and ensuring their access to the general education curriculum in the regular classroom, to the maximum extent possible."
